Conservation:

Riverside Zoo participates in many programs and partnerships to support and encourage wildlife and natural resource conservation. Our activities are made possible in large part by support from our guests and our members.

In cooperation with the American Zoo and Aquarium Association (AZA) Riverside Zoo participates in the Species Survival Program (SSP) for several species of imperiled wildlife, including Red Panda, Chimpanzee, Spider Monkey and Cinereous Vulture.

Thanks to cooperative and scientific management the future of many species is brighter today than just a few years ago.

Education:

Riverside Zoo provides fun and informative programs for people of all ages. Zoo staff and trained volunteers offer a variety of animal and conservation education programs and can tailor programs to suit specific needs. Education is a primary mission of the Riverside Zoo and the Education Department reaches nearly 10,000 children and adults annually. In addition to opportunities here on site, our outreach efforts extend north to South Dakota, west to Casper, Wyoming and east to central Nebraska. Volunteers donate hundreds of hours to give tours, teach day camps, host birthday parties and bring animal ambassadors to schools and community organizations. Contact Education Curator Heather Haberman for more information.

A.D.O.P.T. an Animal Program:

Animals Depend of People Too and you can help the Zoo provide care by “adopting” your favorite animal. Your donation of $10.00 to $100.00 is used to help defray expenses directly related to animal care. In recognition of your sponsorship you will receive an A.D.O.P.T. certificate, a photo of your adopted animal and an animal fact sheet. Call the Marketing Director at 308-630-6226 for details.
